autop took part in the development of the luxury "Phaeton" class

At the beginning of 1998, VW made the decision to construct a new and modern 4000 sq. metre factory hall for the development of the luxury class. This project was named D1.

autop Maschinenbau GmbH, from Rheine, has been supplying the research and development sector of Volkswagen AG, Wolfsburg with automotive lifting technology since 1997. This is where about 7500 technicians develop the latest VW models.

Having been sworn to secrecy, autop was included early on during the planning-phase as the leading producer of hydraulic in-ground lifts. After numerous intensive planning sessions with VW-experts and the architectural firm, autop generated a plan for 35 work stations. These fulfilled all the technical, environmental and safety standards required by VW.
During the summer of 1998, autop's construction team installed 35 Masterlift units featuring the most diverse and innovative superstructures. In addition, each work station was equipped with an autop power module. These do not just provide power and compressed air, but also include a central computer interface.
autop thus contributed to the development of an innovative car by optimally equipping the work stations.

For a new quality control workshop autop has supplied and installed 18 Cargolift units along with various power modules in 2002.
